A Week of Wind-Whipped Wonders at Chubb Cay, Bahamas

February 15, 2024

We left Bimini Island and prepared for a rough crossing to Cubb Cay in the Berry Islands. There’s major wind coming so we will stay there for about a week.

Imagine landing in a place where the wind whispers secrets of the deep blue, where the sun plays peek-a-boo with the clouds, and the ocean cradles islands like precious gems. That’s how our unexpected week-long adventure in Chubb Cay, tucked away in the beautiful Bahamas, began. With the wind ruling the roost, our plans took a delightful detour into an extended stay in paradise.

The Resort: A Slice of Heaven

From the moment we set foot in the resort, it was clear we were in for a treat. Picture this: an infinity pool that blends into the horizon, where the sky kisses the sea. The kids were over the moon about the swim-up bar—not for the cocktails, of course, but for the sheer novelty! They paddled over to order their fancy mocktails while we adults savored our moments of bliss. The kids quickly made friends with other kids staying at the resort.

And then there was the hot tub, a cozy refuge when the breeze turned cool, the pristine beach that stretched like a lazy cat basking under the sun, and the restaurant that became our go-to for tantalizing flavors. Each element of the resort was a thread in the tapestry of our perfect getaway.

A unique treat was the Friday Night Movie on the Beach. A covered area with a projector sat on the beach with lounge chairs and candles illuminating the walkway.

Underwater Marvels: Scuba Diving Extravaganza

One of the highlights was undoubtedly our scuba diving adventure. Descending into the embrace of the ocean, we entered a world vibrant with life. Sharks glided by, majestic and serene, amidst a kaleidoscope of coral that painted the seafloor in hues of every imaginable color. Lionfish, with their elegant fins, and stingrays, ethereal in their silent dance, added to the magic of our underwater escapade. It was an experience that reminded us of the boundless beauty that lies beneath the waves.

Turtle Creek: A Dinghy Ride to Remember

Our explorations took us to Turtle Creek on a day ripe for adventure. Navigating our dinghy through the serene waters, we were greeted by the charming spectacle of turtles. They popped their heads up as if to say hello before darting away, swift and graceful. It was a moment of pure joy, witnessing these gentle creatures in their natural habitat.

The Naughty Rooster: A Taste of Local Life

Venturing out one evening, we found ourselves at the Naughty Rooster, a spot buzzing with locals. The atmosphere was electric, filled with laughter, chatter, and the delicious aroma of Bahamian cuisine. It was a night where we felt embraced by the community, sharing stories and dishes, a testament to the island’s warm hospitality.

Island Life: Beyond the Resort

Chubb Cay, with its private allure and quaint charm, offered more than just luxury. We wandered next to the staff village and garden where the fresh produce was grown. Standing beneath a banana plant, surrounded by a myriad of plants, was a reminder of nature’s simple wonders. I’ve never seen how bananas grew, it was neat to see and taste a fresh banana.

Reflections on a Wind-Swept Week

Our stay in Chubb Cay was a blend of serendipitous moments and planned pleasures. It was a week where the wind didn’t just bring us ashore but guided us through a kaleidoscope of experiences. From the luxury of our resort to the untamed beauty of the sea, from the warmth of local encounters to the tranquility of nature walks, it was a journey of discovery.

If you ever find yourself with the chance to visit this corner of the Bahamas, embrace it with open arms. Dive into the adventures that await, both above and below the waves. And who knows? You might just find yourself wishing for a little wind to extend your stay in paradise.
